Week 14

New Website- Click Here

We finished our websites and linked it on our blog.  We also added a snippet on Iweb to link to a box where someone could buy our magazine but we had to take it off and add a different link. We also added on our blog a gadget for our website and a picture of our cover.  We learned how to use Xythos so that it is accessible on other computers.

Week 13

Assignment: Send out our revised, final copy of our magazine. Also, make any changes to our website using Iweb. We were told to make it as original as possible. I changed some things on mine by adding some stars and underlining important titles. I like to keep things simple so mine is very simple to read and understand.

Week 12 (2)

Assignment: Made our own website on IWeb to promote our magazine. I added a link to my blog so that others can see another side of my design process with the different steps we took to get to the final magazine.

We made 3 pages: The about the magazine page, about the Editor page, and the Slideshow page.

About the Magazine

         About the Editor

      Slideshow

* I feel that it is a good idea to make a website about our magazine because it is beneficial to the product and helps the name get out to all the consumers.

Week 12

This is my finalized front and back cover for my magazine, Eclipse.

Assignment: After finishing all of our spreads, credits page, table of contents and front and back covers, we sent out our magazine to be published using LuLu.com. After purchasing our magazine we were then taught how to make a website for our magazine to help our magazine be seen by others in hopes to sell copies of them. We did this using iWeb. I think it is a great idea to make a website so that others can hear about our magazines without having to see them. It is a good way to hype up your magazine and the web is the best place to do it these days. The web is very versatile and for some people is used daily.

Week 11

Assignment: Create a Table of Contents and some sort of Credits page.

Craft: I made both pages tie together with a deep purple background with white and light purple text. I put all the Lincoln portraits on the left side of the page for the table of contents, and the personal portraits on the right side, so it was easy to read. I made the Title, Table Of Contents big enough to catch the readers eye. I will add a Fleur de Lis design in the right hand corner of the table of contents page because I will have that image on the back of my magazine. I am doing that to have the magazine seem more complete. For the credits page I kept the same color scheme and on the right hand side wrote the words credits and added the photos of the artists. I think it ties in nice with the table of contents and my front and back cover of the magazine.

Week 10

Assignment: Create 10 more spreads to make a total of 20.

Craft: I continued to do the same thing I was doing during the first half, for the second half. I used some of the same strategies such as the big titles and pull quotes with a drop shadow. I want there to be some kind of unifying trait throughout my magazine, while also looking very unique. While finishing the last 2 spreads I added page numbers so that they can correspond with the table of contents I will soon make.

Concept: I tried to make them all have columns so they looked as much like a magazine article as possible but there are a few that have a more bulky text spread than others. I liked playing around the with the colors so that the titles and pull quotes had the same color scheme as the portrait without being too distracting.

Composition: I uploaded 3 of my favorite spreads from the second 10 we needed to complete. I like these 3 because they are each very different are are each as appealing to the eye as the others. Although the black and grey one does not look as much like a magazine as the other 2, I like the way I added a black stripe on the left side of the spread to unify them both.

Week 9

Assignment: Complete 8 more spreads to have a total of 10 done.

Craft: I used a lot of boxes filled with colors that went well with the illustrations. I made the pictures and titles the biggest so they stood out the most since they are the most important part of the spread. I used different fonts to make each spread look different. Another thing I did to personalize each spread was that I made the columns all look different. Some were wider than others, some took up the page more than others and some spilt on to both sides of the spread. I used pull quotes on almost every spread and behind every pull quote is a solid colored rectangle with a drop shadow. I wanted them to all look the same so they stood out and the reader looked for each pull quote.

Concept:I wanted each and every spread to look different but fit together so they feel like they all belong in the same magazine. I used a lot of different colors in each spread as well. I want them all to stand out and look unique in each of their own ways.

Composition: Almost all of my spreads either have the picture on one side and the text on the opposite side. The pictures that were vertical took up the whole page. The pictures that were horizontal usually have the title on one side and the text on the opposite side. I tried my best to make sure nothing of importance on the pictures were cut off in the middle.
